Halloween Weekend in Durham

Over Halloween weekend we had a game up in Durham against the Durham Wildcats.  It just so happens that this is the team my good friend Kevin Bulger plays for.   Kevin and I grew up in the rough and tumble streets of the the North Shore and had many epic battles agianst each other either at the GBN gym or the Titan Dome.  Most of these epic battles consisted of Kevin playing great defense and finding ways to score in spite of having a broke shot while I piggy-backed off my teammates and took many charges on our way to victory.  Its nice to have a good friend not too far away and we have a good time together...at least I do.

The game was a scorcher with both teams scoring in the triple digits, but thankfully the Dragons were victorious.  Kevin got some pay-back from the many charges I took on him throughout our high school careers as he was able to draw a blocking foul on me and score the basket, I'm sure a highlight for him in his basketball career.

After the game I made a last minute decision to hang out with Kevin and his teammates for Halloween night rather than take the long bus ride back with my teammates.  Kevins teammates were a great bunch of guys and I was thouroughly impressed with their costume arrangements.  Unfortunately for me, since I didnt expect to stay the night, all I had with me were the clothes on my back which consited of sweatpants and a long sleeve t-shirt.

I tagged along with Kevin to one of his friends apartments where everyone was getting ready to go out.  I could tell it was going to be a lively night...Durham is home to the University of Durham, its a great university town and all the students were out and about getting ready for a fun night.  It reminded me alot of WashU with a European flair to it.

After some  socialising at the apartment, we all decided to head out to the pubs/clubs.  Unfortuntely, not having a proper costume caught up with me when I was the only one not allowed into the night club we went to.  This was a big bummer considering I had no other clothes to change into and it was just the beginning of the night.  Nor did it make much sense since there were many other people in our group who didnt really have club approrpiate attire who were let in.  The bouncer was stubborn and wouldnt budge.  Finally after 20 minutes of pleading our case, Kevin said I'd do anything to get in (I didnt appreciate him throwing me under the bus like that).  I think the bouncer got so sick of us pleading with him....and wanted to make an American look stupid, so he said he'd let me in if I took off my pants and wore only my boxers for the rest of the night.  The rest is history.  A great night in
 Durham in the end.
